mills, granaries and barracks of insect and other pests. But the original
substance was odourless and it accidentally killed people as well. So,
Zyklon A had a foul-smelling additive that warned people of its use.
Zyklon B was a further improvement making it much easier to handle and
therefore even safer. However, when the Nazis came to power and began
their extermination program, Zyklon B was reformulated to remove the
odour then used to exterminate millions of Jews, including some of Haber’s
own family.
