Even though the scanner type is different, the image analysis is possible to carry
out under the same conditions as this study by adjusting the scan settings so that the
above conditions are different. After the RGB channel separation for the image of the
paper disk, the binarization of the image is completed to measure the tailing length.
Blue channel and Red channel are used to binarize the tailings of the dot. To extract
the tailings, we chose the regions of the blue value (B) and red value (R) represented
in Eq. (19.14).
B > 1:5158R, R < 215

In the image analysis, the centroid of the tailing is used. The distance between the
centroid of the tailing and the centroid of the initial dot is defined as the tailing
length. The relationship between tailing length L (cm) and Darcy velocity
V (cm/min) for 60 min is given by Eq. (19.15).
V ¼ L=11:053

19.4.2 Groundwater Flow Around the Canal Blocking
To maintain the groundwater level in tropical peatland, canal blocking by the
structure is often adopted (Ochi et al. 2016). However, the effectivity of the canal
blocking needs to be studied. Through the survey on the groundwater flow, we
evaluated the effectivity of the canal blocking materials, especially the peat.
