3.7.2.1 WSL Site
WSL-MTI conducted a field assessment before starting activities to understand the
formation and landform of the peat landscape. The results showed that the soil of the
WSL is dominated mainly by peat (92% of the total area) and that riverbanks are
covered by alluvial soils (8% of the total area). The land system type is composed of
Tropohemist, Troposaprist, and Tropaquent, characterized by an intermediate level
of decomposition of peat. Peat depth is shallow with a range of up to three meters
with a relatively flat land gradient. Peat has been partially affected by tidal inundation, which causes higher ash content due to the sedimentation of inorganic material
components.
3.7.2.2 MTI Site
The soil type of MTI is dominated by peat soil (73%) and mineral soil (27%). The
peat distribution and its depth vary considerably depending on the microtopography.
The land system type is composed of Tropohemist and Tropofibrist, both of which
have acid traits. Moreover, Tropofibrist has low levels of decomposition in comparison to other peat soils.
