A WT system can accommodate both an induction and a synchronous generator.
Because of their unique features and characteristics such as high efficiency, reduced
cost of maintenance, and ease in controlling and since they can function without the
use of reactive and magnetizing current, the variable-velocity direct-driven multipole perpetual magnet synchronous dynamos (PMSGs) are also expansively being
used in airstream-driven power schemes. An extra cost of maintenance and burden
is created by the existence of a gearbox in variable-speed WT generators. The
decreasing of the weight of the nacelle is not the only impact created by the use of
a direct-driven gearbox in variable-speed WTs but also the generation of an extra
burden of cost. A d–q synchronous reference frame provides the basis for the model
for a PMSG. The equivalence of PMSG is

In the above equation, the q axis mutual induction is L q , d axis mutual induction
is L d , q axis flow of electricity is i q , i d is the d axis flow of electricity, V q is the q axis
