Figure 54 Test results of compressive adhesive tests (left), Test setup and specimen after testing in
case of Scotch-Weld™ EC-9323 B/A (right)
Summary
The tests results show scatter between 2-5 %. This can be explained by the air pockets
in the material, which appear to be random in size and distribution. In addition to the
mechanical properties the density of the materials was determined from the specimens.
All test results are summarized in Table 19. The three investigated materials indicate
significantly different behavior in tension and compression. Ureol is clearly distinguished
due to its low modulus and tensile strength, while the two epoxy adhesives are comparable with regards to the investigated basic material properties. Poisson’s ratio for
Scotch-Weld™ EC-9323 B/A was determined at 0.44 based on an additional transverse
strain gauge. This value serves as reference in the following simulations also for the remaining two adhesives, which were not tested with transverse strain gauges.
