used to complete assessments on the project over a 100-year service life looking at
cradle-to-grave impacts of the design. The WBLCA study was inclusive of structure, foundation, and envelope (Fig. 9.8). This comprises the vast majority of the
building mass. Within these categories, the structure is the dominant element in
terms of both mass and embodied impacts. The results of the WBLCA were used to
inform all of the ensuing studies and reductions in overall impacts.
As discussed in Sects. 8.3.3 and 8.3.4, a BIM model contains data about a building’s construction and performance but does not simulate actual built conditions.
Furthermore, a BIM model is only as knowledgeable and useful as the data that is
