where q e (mg/g) is the equilibrium adsorption capacity, C o and C e are the initial and
equilibrium concentration (mg/L) of Cu(II) ions in solution, respectively, while V
(mL) is the volume and M (g) is the mass of G/CR-CS.
6.4.2.5 Packed Column Experiment
An experiment with packed bed adsorption was conducted in a clear manner cylindrical polystyrene column with an inner diameter of 0.0254 and 0.405 m long. The
prepared G/CR-CS has been loaded to the column to the desired bed height. With the
aid of a peristaltic pump, the controlling concentration was pumped upward through
the base. Figure 6.3 displays the experimental setup column schematic diagram. The
experiment was performed at ambient temperature, with the Cu(II) ions present in the
aqueous mixture analysed by atomic absorption spectrometry (Varian SpectrAA-10)
before and after adsorption. The study was performed at various bed heights of 0.21,
0.28 and 0.35 m, which is equivalent to G/CR-CS 60, 80 and 100 g. The pH of the
solution was held constant at pH 5.3.
6.4.2.6 Column Regeneration
Once the concentration of the Cu(II) ions solution leaving the column was almost
identical to the concentration of the inlet solution, the column was deemed fully
