Chen and Chen (2017) combine emerging technologies with TRIZ to propose an
eco-innovative design method.
ARIZ combined with different field have emerged. An extensive search of
the literature about ARIZ shows that only a few works have been devoted to
its study and application. In 1994, Fey et al. (1994) used ARIZ to solve some
real life engineering problems for obtaining non-obvious solutions. In 2005,
Krasnoslobodtsev and Langevin (2005) used ARIZ to develop a robot that can clean,
finish and diagnose any oriented surfaces in space, for instance shop windows and
some dangerous tank surfaces, and over 20 patents have been granted to this invention. In 2005, Krasnoslobodtsev et al. (2005) used ARIZ to help Samsung Electronic
Company solve a problem of air conditioner and the destruction problem of a driving
pin and cam-bush. In 2006, Krasnoslobodtsev and Langevin (2006) researched by
using the ARIZ to solve some of Samsung’s high-tech problems, such as those
related to printer ink cartridges and vacuum cleaners. Chen and Chen proposed to
use ARIZ as an innovation tool for eco-innovation problems (Chen and Chen 2009,
2013) and patent design around problems (Chen and Chen 2011, 2014a). Chen and
Chen (2014b) integrated biomimetic with ARIZ-85C (Fey) and proposed Bio-ARIZ
to make the designers can get the corresponding new idea from biology. Chen and
Lin (2018) integrated ARIZ-85C (Fey) and case-based reasoning method on product
innovative design for the Bottom of the pyramid.
This paper presents an eco-innovative method by integrating concepts of technologies for the future with ARIZ. An eco-innovation process for products by technologies
for the future and ARIZ tools is proposed in this paper.
9.2 Technologies for the Future
9.2.1 New Emerging Technologies and Environment
The potential effect of emerging technologies to environment has caused wide attention. Shaikh et al. (2017) study the necessary key technologies to establish green
internet of things (IoT). Gebler et al. (2014) present the qualitative and quantitative
assessment of 3D printing process for evaluating the change in product life cycle
cost, energy consumption, and CO 2 emissions. Ford and Despeisse (2016) show the
advantages and challenges of 3D printing in concerning sustainability. Wadud et al.
(2016) present the relationship between self-driving vehicles and amount of energy
consumption and CO 2 emissions.
