Fig. 16.6 Structure of water intake in Poland by voivodship in 2007 (own study on the basis of the
data from [22]). Legend: 1—water consumption in m 3 per 1 person, 2—% share of water intake
for: a—production, b—water supply network operation, c—irrigation, 3—total water consumption
in hm 3 , 4—voivodship names according to numbering shown in Table 16.1
16.6 The Degree of Water and Wastewater
Infrastructure Development
The development of water supply infrastructure and the universality of water supply
services is an important distinguishing feature and determinant of general economic
development and the standard of living of the population. In addition, the structure of
water supply and unit consumption is not only a measure of the achieved civilization
standard, but also a determinant of rational management, determined by appropriate
technical, investment, organizational and economical solutions [34].
The degree of development of water supply and sewerage infrastructure was
spatially diverse. The largest increase in the length of the water supply network in the
analyzed period 1999–2015 was recorded in Mazowieckie voivodship (193%) and
Warmi´ nsko-Mazurskie voivodship (183%), while the largest increase in the length
of the sewerage network was recorded in Podkarpackie voivodship (483.8%) and
´
Swi˛ etokrzyskie voivodship (453%). The situation is similar to the number of water
