Construction of a dig channel connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the
Gdansk Bay
In the area of the lower Vistula water region, the construction of a waterway
connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gdansk Bay is planned. The planned
completion date is 2023. The cost of the investment is estimated at 878
million PLN
The investment is planned due to the overriding public interest, aimed at
creating infrastructural guarantees of the Community freedom of free
movement of goods and creating a new intermodal node between E60 and the
TEN-T IA corridor
On December 5, 2018, the Regional Director of Environmental Protection in
Olsztyn determined the environmental conditions for the project entitled. “A
waterway connecting the Vistula Lagoon with the Gdansk Bay - the location
of Nowy Swiat” [100]. The investment is planned to include construction of a
protective port from the side of Gdansk Bay, construction of a shipping
channel with a sluice, construction of an artificial island on the Vistula
Lagoon of the area 181 ha, construction of a fairway on the Vistula Lagoon
and reconstruction of the fairway on the Elblag River. The analysis of the
impact of the planned investment on the environment shows that with proper
fulfillment of the conditions listed in the decision on environmental
conditions, the implementation of the project should not have a significant
negative impact on the environment
