10.2.7 Goal 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
The main objective of SDG 7 is to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable
and modern energy for all” (Sachs 2012). The targets for this goal are access to
reliable and affordable energy by 2030. This entails the improvement of energy
efficiency as well as international cooperation for better access to technology for
clean energy. There is also a need for more investments that can increase the number
of clean energy infrastructure projects. Figure 10.8 shows the global investments
in clean energy technologies from 2004 to 2015. There is a remarkable growth in
investment across all regions, but at significant different rate. The disadvantaged or
least developed nations as well as developing countries should be given core priority.
