10.2.4 Goal 4: Quality Education
The main objective of this goal is to “ensure that there is equitable and inclusive
education as well as promote lifelong learning opportunities for all the individuals.”
There has been tremendous progress in providing access to education, especially at
the primary school level (see Fig. 10.5). There are still major challenges because of
the complex nature of education. In addition, access does not always imply a good
quality of education or primary school completion. It is estimated that 103 million
young individuals lack basic literacy skills and at least 60% of them are women
(Richter et al. 2017). There is also difficulty in tracking progress and ensuring that
