Lujan Suárez, the artisan who received two awards at the Fiesta Nacional del Poncho, travelled to Cusco with the support of the National Ministry of Culture. There,
not only did they show their textiles, but they also described the experience of the
Co-operative’s organisation and growth.
3.3 From the Heights of the Puna to New Mexico Collectors’
Market
In 2018, through the Mercado de Artesanías Tradicionales de la Argentina (MATRA)
[Market of Argentine Traditional Handicrafts],
20 they managed to become part of
the curatorship of the prestigious International Folk Art Market (IFAM),
21 the traditional handicrafts fair held once a year in Santa Fe city, New Mexico, which gathers
luxury collectors, curators and consumers. This was a positive experience and the
20 Mercado Nacional de Artesanías de Argentina (MATRA) [Market of Argentine Traditional Handicrafts] is the National Secretariat of Culture’s handicrafts programme which, among other missions,
works to connect artisans to the international handicrafts fair market.
21 International Folk Art Market (IFAM) is an annual traditional artisans’ fair which also has an
empowerment and incentive programme for artists worldwide.
