as well as ‘the artisan’s quality’ as an expression of the individual and collective
know-how, which is consolidated, suitable, verifiable and recognised by other nonartisans. Julia Guerra, Crescencia Casimiro, Ana Suárez and Zulema Gutiérrez’s
vicuña ponchos and throws evidenced that their designation as mere ‘wool’ sellers
imposed for decades by intermediaries and even by artisans in the valleys had come
to an end”.
This recognition was consolidated when a post of the Loom Route—along route
40—was set up in Laguna Blanca. Instead of resting on its laurels, the Co-operative
recently achieved another extremely important milestone: the internationalisation of
its trading area.
3.2 The Experience in Cusco
In 2017, the Co-operative was invited by Doña Nilda Callañaupa to participate in
the weavers’ Tinkuy 2019, in Cusco (Peru). This gathering is organised by the Centro de Textiles Tradicionales del Cusco [Cusco Traditional Textiles Centre], a key
benchmark institution that managed to bring together traditional textiles, quality
