stillage (TS), and soy whey (SW) and citric acid effluent, have the potential to
cultivate the microalgae for biomass production. Table 13.1 summarizes the
treatment efficiency and biomass production of the abovementioned industrial
effluents through phycoremediation.
3.3 Oil Refineries, Distilleries, and Breweries
3.3.1 Oil Refineries
Oil refinery wastewater supports algal biomass production despite the fact it contains
highly fluctuating and chemically challenging substances. One pilot study on an oil
refinery wastewater with CO 2 injection yielded the removal of ammonia nitrogen
