is characterized by a wide range of sedimentary and glacial processes, resulting in
different combinations of erosional and depositional features.
The existences of marked planation surfaces in Schirmacher Oasis, which demonstrate consistently flat top ridges, indicate a strong, pre-Holocene weathering profile. These planation surfaces show elevations between 115–120  m. 135  m and
145 m and might be the result of Pleistocene period or still older. The serrated peaks
and the rugged topography of the Gruber, Humboldt, and Petermann Ranges, south
of Schirmacher, suggest that the higher reaches of these mountains remained uncovered by the ice sheet during last Pleistocene stadial. The highest level up to which
