(ii) Five sediment samples collected from vertical sections of the shallow pits
made for foundation of the Maitri station (Figs. 4 and 5).
(iii) Twenty seven sediment samples collected from finer constituent of fluvioglacial deposits from different parts of Schirmacher (Fig. 6).
5 Samples from Different Levels of Glacial Deposits
In an attempt to understand the sedimentary characteristic of different phases of
glacial deposit, five representatives soil samples were collected from different locations representing the glacial surfaces mapped between 100 and 125 m above m.s.l.,
Sample No. 1 (ST1, northernmost sample) was collected from the terrace of
Priyadarshini lake-bed-level. Sample No. 2 (ST2) was collected from the terrace of
Summer Camp level. Sample No. 3 (ST3B) was collected from western side of the
terrace of Maitri station, at Earth Station level. Sample No. 4 (ST4) was collected
from the terrace further south of Genset Complex, near upper small lake. Sample
No. 5 (ST5) is the southernmost sample, collected from the terrace near Ice Cap
