10.4.2.1 C-1 Column
Figure 10.4 demonstrates the failure mode of C-1 specimen after 1 kg TNT contact
explosion. It can be seen that C-1 specimen had no global deformations, and the steel
tube was not fractured but an approximately elliptical crater was formed beneath the
charge. The elliptical short axis (R 1 ) and long axis (R 2 ) were 105 and 110 mm, and the
maximum depth of the crater (D c ) was 27 mm. In addition to the plastic deformation
of the crater, the steel tube of C-1 specimen was dilated laterally with the dimension
(R 3 ) of 209 mm, which was 6 mm greater than the original diameter. Due to the
eccentricity of the initial dentonation point, the distance between the center of the
crater and the bottom of the column was 255 mm, slightly larger than 250 mm. A
crack was found in the connection part between the bottom plate and one stiffening
