7.3 Impact Test on NP450 Armor Steel/UHPCC and NP500
Armor Steel/UHPCC Composite Targets
and Numerical Simulations
7.3.1 Impact Test
7.3.1.1 Projectile and Target
(1) Projectiles
In the present impact test, the adopted projectiles are the same as those in Sect. 7.2.1.1.
The same cannon in Sect. 7.2.1.2 was utilized to launch the projectiles to reach the
striking velocities between 372 m/s and 646 m/s by adjusting the charge weight.
(2) Composite targets
Ballistic performance of the armor steel/UHPCC composite target was examined
by conducting projectile penetration test with different combinations of armor steel
types and thicknesses, as shown in Fig. 7.32. The armor steel plate and the backed
UHPCC cylindrical were pasted by binder.
Two types of newly developed armor steels named NP450 and NP500 with the
plane dimensions of 150 mm × 150 mm and thicknesses of 5, 8, 10, and 13 mm
were adopted and provided by Nanjing Nangang Iron and Steel United Co., Ltd.,
as shown in Fig. 7.33. The corresponding chemical compositions of those two new
steels are listed in Table 7.12, and the yield strength of NP450 and NP500 armor
steels are 1136 MPa and 1323 MPa, respectively.
The mix proportions of UHPCC and size of UHPCC targets are both same as
those in Sect. 7.2.1.1.
