(2) Discussions
Based on the above validated numerical algorithm as well as the constitutive models
and the corresponding model parameters, the energy evolutions of both projectiles
and targets during the penetration process are further discussed.
During the penetration process, the initial kinetic energy (KE) of the projectile is
mainly dissipated by the following aspects. Firstly, a large proportion of the initial
kinetic energy is dissipated by the fracture of the target subjected to the impact loading
