Lord Kelvin (1824–1907) was a British physicist and inventor, whose scientific activities are multifaceted. His main contributions to physics are electromagnetism and thermodynamics. He was one of the main founders of
thermodynamics and his name is used as a unit of temperature (Kelvin).
In 1927, the Seventh International metrology conference took the thermodynamic temperature scale as the most basic temperature scale. Fluid
mechanics, especially vortex theory, was one of Kelvin’s favorite subjects.
Inspired by Helmholtz’s work, he found some valuable theorems. The
research achievements in electromagnetics theory and engineering application are outstanding. In 1848, he invented the electric image method, which
is an effective method to calculate the electrostatic field generated by the
charge distribution of a certain shape of conductor. He deeply studied the
discharge oscillation characteristics of Leyton bottle, published the paper
The Oscillation Discharge of Leyton Bottle in 1853, calculated the oscillation
frequency, and made a pioneering contribution to the research of electromagnetic oscillation theory. In 1846, the “moving image method of force” of
electric force, magnetic force, and electric current was successfully completed.
He revealed the similarity between the theory of Fourier heat conduction and
