time. Tollmien in 1935 and Lin Jiaqiao in 1945, the Chinese American
mechanist, gave the critical Reynolds number of damped perturbations for
Poiseuille flow between plates. However, the perturbation method is unsuccessful in studying the stability of Poiseuille flow in a circular tube. The
stability theory does not give the physical mechanism of turbulent transition.
