In future studies, more attention has been paid to the development of
disturbances in laminar flow, i.e., laminar flow stability. In 1880, Rayleigh
(1842–1919, as shown in Fig. 1.47), the British scholar, studied the
microwave perturbation problem with the inviscid effect. In 1907, Orr
(German scholar) and Sommerfeld (German scholar) studied the evolution of the amplitude of perturbation wave motion with time, respectively,
and proposed the famous perturbation stability equation, namely the Orr–
Sommerfeld equation. Meanwhile, in 1897, Lorentz, the Dutch physicist
(1853–1928, as shown in Fig. 1.48), put forward the equation of perturba-
