(3) FLUENT
This software was introduced by fluent Inc. in 1983. It is the second software based on the finite volume method put on the market after Phoenix
software. It includes structured and unstructured grid versions. In the
version of the structured grid, there are pre-processing software for body
fitted coordinates, which can also be available to the grid generated by
famous grid generation software such as I-DEAS, PATRAN, ANSYS,
and ICEMCFD. The velocity and pressure are coupled by SIMPLEC
algorithm on the same position grid. Different schemes of convection
term include first-order upwind, central difference quick scheme, etc.
The software can calculate compressible and incompressible flows, evaporation with particles, combustion process, chemical reaction process of
multi-component medium, etc.
(4) PHOENICS
This is the first commercial CFD software put on the market in the
world, which can be regarded as the ancestor of CFD commercial software. Some basic algorithms used in this software, such as simple method
and mixed format, are just put forward by the founder of this software, D.B. Spalding and his collaborator, S.V. Patankar, which have a
great impact on the later commercial software development. In recent
years, PHOENICS software has made great improvements in function
and method, including the technology of patch multigrid and fine grid
embedding, the same position grid and unstructured grid. For the turbulence model, the general zero equation, low Reynolds k-epsilon model,
and RNG k-epsilon model have been developed. This software can be
used to calculate a large number of practical problems, including urban
pollution prediction, flow in impeller, and pipe flow.
(5) STAR-CD
STAR-CD is the abbreviation of Simulation of Turbine Flow in Ambient
Region, and the CD after the hyphen is the abbreviation of the developer Computational Dynamics Ltd. It is the general software based on
the finite volume method. In the aspect of mesh generation, unstructured mesh is used. The shape of the element can be hexahedron,
tetrahedron, prism with triangle section, pyramid shaped cone, and
other polyhedron with six shapes. This software can be used to calculate steady and unsteady flow, Newtonian and non-Newtonian flow, flow
in porous media, subsonic and supersonic flow, and it is widely used in
the automobile industry.
