two lacustrine (Sinoie and Mangalia) and one marine. For the coastal waters, three
bodies of water were identified.
In order to identify highly modified bodies of water, biological and abiotic data
are taken into account. The criteria are based on types of hydrotechnical works
and on their effects on aquatic ecosystems. For the permanent freshwater bodies
(2347) within the hydrographical basins and spaces, the following are delimited:
415 (17.6%)—highly modified; 364 (15.5%)—candidate to “highly modified”; 1491
(63.6%)—without hydromorphological alterations; 77 (3.3%)—artificial bodies of
water. For the transitory waters, two highly modified bodies of water were identified:
one fluvial; one lacustrine. For the coastal waters, one highly modified body of water
and one body of water candidate to “highly modified” were identified [54, 98].
For the evaluation of the risk of failing to achieve the environmental objectives
for the bodies of water, the following criteria were taken into account: pollution
from organic substances; pollution from nutrients; pollution by priority hazardous
substances; hydromorphological alterations. A body of water is “at risk” if one of the
criteria concerning pressure or impact is met. If none of the criteria is met, the body
of water is “not at risk”. If data for the evaluation of the risk are not available, the
body is considered “possibly at risk”. The 2347 freshwater bodies with permanent
character (including the Danube) have the following characteristics:
– organic substances: 224 (9.5%) at risk; 128 (5.5%) possibly at risk; 1995 (85%)
not at risk;
– nutrients: 290 (12.3%) at risk; 171 (7.3%) possibly at risk; 1886 (80.4%) not at
risk;
– priority or priority hazardous substances: 56 (2.4%) at risk; 77 (3.3%) possibly at
risk; 2214 (94.3%) not at risk;
– hydromorphological alterations: 492 (20.9%) at risk; 364 (15.5%) possibly at risk;
1491 (63.6%) not at risk;
– all the categories of risk: 639 (27.2%) at risk; 370 (15.8%) possibly at risk; 1338
(57.0%) not at risk.
For the Jiu river, there are four bodies of water “possibly at risk” by the total
matters in suspension. For the six transitory bodies of water, the following resulted:
– organic matter—five bodies of water—possibly at risk; one body of water—at
risk;
– nutrients—six bodies at risk;
– priority hazardous substances—three bodies at risk; two bodies possibly at risk;
– hydromorphological alterations—two bodies of water at risk.
For the coastal waters, with three bodies, the following result:
– organic matter—one body of water is possibly at risk;
– nutrients—three bodies of water at risk;
– priority hazardous substances—two bodies of water possibly at risk;
– hydromorphological alterations—one body of the water at risk; one body of water
possibly at risk.
