14 Assessment of Some Diurnal Streamwater Profiles in Western …

The relative diurnal profiles are useful for comparison of different rivers (because,
in raw format, they have different raw and amplitude values) and for using them as
a theoretical mean evolution in various simulation models.
14.5 Diurnal Streamwater Profiles
Water temperature of Meghes , River increased from 8.23 °C, at site 1, to 10.41 °C,
at site 2, a big increase of 2.18 °C despite the short distance between the two sites
(0.33 km; increase caused by thermal water input). The water temperature shape is
similar in both sites (Figs. 14.5 and 14.6a), with minima at 7:30–8:00 and maxima at
15:00–15:30 (the times of maxima and minima are similar in air; mean air temperature
is 6.52 °C in site 1 and 9.69 °C in site 2, closer to Moneasa settlement). The earlier
minimum and maximum is recorded upstream (site 1), and there is a higher thermal
amplitude in site 2 (in air and water). One supplementary/partial explanation for
Fig. 14.5 Mean profiles of parameters in site 1: a temperature, b pressure, c electrical conductivity
