an air sensor placed much farther recorded more relevant data and was used instead
of the closer air sensor (which may have been missing or malfunctioned).
The most important rivers (based on their discharge in the last 60 years) measured
for this study are Suceava (at D˘ arm˘ anes , ti, ~16.5 m
3 /s) and Cerna (at Pecinis , ca (B˘ aile
Herculane), ~14 m
3 /s). Most studied rivers have mean annual discharges under 1 m
3 /s
at the selected measuring sites. On some small rivers (such as Dorna and Bobîlna,
in the selected sites), during some winters or summers, the water flow almost ceases
because of the water freezing or, respectively, because of the missing rainfalls and
the high evapotranspiration.
Sites 1 and 2 were established on Meghes , River, a tributary of Moneasa River.
The two sites are at only 0.33 km from each other and downstream water sensor was
meant to measure the impact of a hypothermal spring found between the two sites.
Site 3 was placed on B˘ ailor Creek, another tributary of Moneasa, as it is a mix of
cold waters from Grota Ursului Cave and thermal waters/springs from B˘ ailor Valley.
Site 4 is represented by Cib River upstream of B˘ acâia settlement and downstream
of Cib Gorge. Air pressure was measured few meters away from the water monitoring
point, but air temperature and relative humidity were selected from inside the gorge
upstream (~1 km away) to be not affected by the nearby settlement.
Site 5 is Bobîlna River at Feredee, where hypothermal springs can be found; air
data was completed (when missing) with measurements done at Rapolt , el (4.5 km
away).
Sites 6–8 are placed on Cerna River. Site 6 is upstream of Herculane Dam/Prisaca
Lake and is not influenced by its flow regulation, but has flow regulated by Valea lui
Iovan Lake and Dam, found 15 km upstream. Site 7 is placed in Seven Hot Springs
area where Cerna River receives water from hyperthermal springs. Site 8 measures
the effect of B˘ aile Herculane city (including the numerous thermal springs of the
urban area) on the temperature of the homonymous river.
Site 9 measures the thermal regime of Moldova River, being found between runof-the-river power plants and having heavily modified discharge. Site 10 is placed
on Humor, a tributary of Moldova River with a natural flow.
Sites 11–13 represent measurements done on rivers with significant salt input and
the surrounding air. 11 is represented by Solonet , River, while 12 is represented by
Blîndet , u, a tributary of Solonet , . Site 13 is found in Solca River Valley.
Sites 14, 15, and 18 are found on other rivers that, like Solonet , and Solca, are
tributary of Suceava River: 14—Sucevit , a, 15—Pozen, 18—Brodina. Site 19 is placed
on Vit , ˘
au before it flows into Putna, another tributary of Suceava River. Suceava River
is measured in sites 16 and 17.
Site 20 is placed on Dorna River before Vatra Dornei city and Ros , u Dam (also
before flowing into Bistrit , a River). Site 21 was meant to measure S , ug˘ au River inside
S , ug˘ au Gorge; S , ug˘ au is a tributary of Bicaz, which is a tributary of Bistrit , a River.
