body (Maramures , ului Depression), although pressurized, is trapped in pannonian or
older deposits and has lesser economic importance (S.T.W.B.A. 2010).
The ROSO02 groundwater body—rivers Iza and Vis , eu
This groundwater body develops in the Maramures , ului Depression, overlays most of
the hydrographic basin of river Vis , eu and partially the Upper Iza Basin (Fig. 12.9).
The petrography of the area is dominated by sandstones, conglomerates and partially Paleogene sands, with relatively high permeability, which form the base of an
extended fissural network [41] (Fig. 12.15).
The average underground flow of the fissural aquifer system is 7–10 l/s km
2 ,
which means a supply rate of about 250 mm per year (S.T.W.B.A. 2010).
Some springs were identified, with flows varying from 0.2 to 1 l/s in a permanent
regime. The phreatic aquifer of the meadows and terraces of rivers Vis , eu and Iza
is made out of sands and boulders in 4–6 m thick layers, with piezometric levels at
0.1–3.0 m deep and very low flow rates when pumped (under 0.1 l/s/borehole). The
only subareas that had more significant flows, from 0.7 to 7 l/s/borehole for level
differences of 0.3–1.3 m, are those located at Bors , a and Vis , eul de Sus (S.T.W.B.A.
2010).
The ROSO03 groundwater body—Maramures , ului Depression
This deep groundwater body is of fissural type and stationed in Paleogene-Middle
Miocene deposits (Fig. 12.15).
In order to evaluate the possibilities of providing drinking water for the settlements
throughout the depression, a few boreholes were drilled as follows (S.T.W.B.A.
2010):
– the C˘ alines , ti borehole, drilled up to 250 m, encountered a sandstone complex
at 135–160 m and 191–216 m depth, has a maximum flow of 0.3 l/s for a level
difference of 34 m (the piezometric level is of artesian type, at +0.23 m). The
water is potable, of bicarbonate-calcium-magnesium-sodium type, with nitrates in
small concentrations, 2 mg/l;
– the drills at Sighetul Marmat , iei, Deses , ti and Bogdan-Vod˘ a, at depths of 250–300 m,
had no hydrogeological significant results.
The ROSO13 groundwater body—the Somes , Cone, Lower Pleistocene
Medium depth groundwater layers of the Somes , river alluvial cone and also of
the northern part of the Tur river, are stationed in porous-permeable proluvialalluvial deposits (psefito-psamitic with pellitic intercalations), of Pleistocene age
(Fig. 12.15).
The groundwater body is located at depths that vary from 30 m (the lower limit of
the dividing layer of clay situated between the phreatic water body and the medium
depth water body correspondent to the alluvial cone of river Somes , ) to 50 m in
the eastern side and from 30 to 120–130 m in its western end, towards the border
(S.T.W.B.A. 2010).
