12 Water Resources from Romanian Upper Tisa Basin

maps for floods (R.W.N.A.—“Romanian Waters” National Administration), geographic coordinates points and GPS files from different sources (terrain research and
bibliographical references). The digital mapping, the files’ conversion and the modelling were made using specific software like GPS Utility, Global Mapper, ArcGIS
10.x, AutoCAD.
12.2 Several Natural Components Which Condition
the Water Resource
The analysis of natural components, which condition the water resource, has been
made strictly for the area of Romanian Upper-Tisza Basin, eventually with some
examples from the entire basin, for some aspects’ support.
12.2.1 Geological Component
The magma-origin rocks and crystalline schists deposits from Maramure¸ s Basin
print the relief massiveness and a peripheral spread, aspect which is also passed in
the exaltation of the morphological structures, with altitudes exceeding 2000 m in
the south-eastern part of the region (Fig. 12.4).

The sedimentary component characterizes the lower areas inside the basin, and
together with the other petrographic formations influence the distinct, quantitative
and qualitative features of water bodies in the area (Geological Map of Romania,
1:200,000 scale, Baia Mare and Vi¸ seu sheets).
The river Tur basin has a different configuration, particularly interesting and spectacular, favourable to the accumulation of significant reserves of water. The upper
compartment is organized in the form of an amphitheatre, with the opening towards
the west, is composed of a consistent peripheral volcanic frame and a central market
of gathering waters. The lower compartment is totally open and organized on consistent deposits specific to the Western Plain and allows the accumulation of significant
water reserves.
A focused analysis of the petrographic structure of the relief units related strictly
to Romanian Upper-Tisza basin, it can be observed important differences, with good
conditions for rainwater drainage, but with poor conditions for underground water
resources accumulation (Fig. 12.4).
The Pop Ivan Ridge, situated in the northern part of Maramures , Mountains
(mountain group structured on a veritable mosaic petrographic, comparable maybe
with the with very diverse petrographic structure of the Apuseni Mountains Range),
is preserved very well in relief thanks to the presence of sericito-chloritic schists and
