and took many initiatives, which involved citizens and thus reduced the expenditure
and maximize the returns to attain sustainable waste management.
3 Existing System of Solid Waste Management
3.1 Collection and Transport
100% door–door collection is there in 27 wards consisting 12,971 numbers of households are being covered under door–door collection by using 30 pushcarts having
four bins each. There are 3 zones for monitoring door–door collection. Each zone
contains 9 wards and has 10 pushcarts and one auto-tipper for secondary transport.
All the wet waste is being transported into auto-tipper and dry waste into polythene
bags attached to each vehicle; the same is being transported to processing plant
everyday. All the vehicles used for waste management are being monitored through
GPS to meet fuel efficiency and cost reduction. Solid waste management fee is being
collected through taxes for door–door collection as per the government rules (Fig. 2).
