Advantages and disadvantages of this method are similar to the perforator system:
Long extraction times (48–96 h), suitability only for thermostable compounds versus
automatization and relatively high reproducibility. Noteworthy, for fossil matter the
thermal stress do not need to be considered since fossil material is intrinsically
thermostable.
A by far faster technique has been developed in the 1990s, the accelerated solvent
extraction ASE. The sample material is extracted under high pressure and with
