worldwide, reduced child mortality, and reduced the percentage of children
not in school (UN, 2015).
The goals of this book are supportive of a number of the 2015 Sustainable
Development Goals, which include economic, social, and environmental
dimensions, as well as the global commitment that has been accepted by all
countries. The Sustainable Development Goals are listed in Table  1.1, and
a few of them are particularly worth noting for our current context. Goal 3
includes improving urban air quality because that contributes to healthy lives
and well- being. Goal 3.9 includes reducing the number of deaths because of
air pollution (UN, 2015). Goal 7 relates to developing sustainable energy and
reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Goal 7.2 is to increase substantially the
fraction of renewable energy in the global mix (UN, 2015). Goal 11 relates to
making cities safe and sustainable. Goal 11.6 includes improving air quality
(UN, 2015). This book will address urban topics related to health and the
transformation to more sustainable transportation and energy. Goal 13
addresses climate change, which relates to the emphasis on reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Goal 13.2 is to integrate climate change measures into
