pressure moment, and wavemaker power as a function of H, h, T, and the
depth difference between to two constant-depth regions. The curves were
for wave boards with water on one side, and separate curves were given for
different values of l/h. Computer computation of the values of the “summation” terms in the various wavemaker equations was terminated when
the addition of the next term in the series failed to change the sum by more
than 0.1%.
In a companion paper, Hudspeth, Leonard, and Chen (1981) compared
computed values of their two-depth wavemaker theory with measurements
from the large wave tank at Oregon State University (OSU). Data were
collected in both depth regions for 21 cases of regular waves that were
approximately 25% of the theoretical breaking limit, and they reported
“generally good agreement” between data and theory. These experiments
appeared to be the first published validation of the first-order theoretical
expressions for hydrodynamic moment acting on the wave board.
Patel and lonnaou (1980) compared the performance of a variable-draft
flap-type wave board with that of a wedge-type wave generator. Both
