4.9 Case Studies on Tidal Inlets
The sand bar formation and chocking of river mouths is one of the most
commonly occurring phenomena along the coast of India. The river mouths
along Cheruvathur, and Chettuvai along the coast of Kérala situated on
the South west coast of India were identified to undergo severe choking and
prédominant sand bar formation preventing the ease of flow of river stream
water into the océan.
Cheruvathur creek is located on the south west coastline, (12°H'59"N
and 75°7'12"E). The site dominated by net southerly drift of sédiment
transport, resulted in sand bar formation at the confluence of the river and
Arabian Sea. This necessitated a detailed study on suitable remédiai to
