Vaan Island by keeping in mind that it should not hâve any influence on
the neighborhood island, Koswari, and, it should facilitate the growth of
corals. An analysis of the wave climate in this région is required in order to
prescribe suitable protection measures. For this purpose, a numerical model
developed to consider the combined refraction-diffraction small amplitude
surface gravity waves over an arbitrarily varying mild sloped sea bed as
proposed by Berkhoff [1972] also discussed by Li [1994] has been developed and applied in order to identify the salient offshore points near the
islands, where, the wave energy is concentrated. An artificial unit as shown
in Fig. 4.18(b) was adopted for the protection measure. The adopted protection measures for the Vaan Island are shown in Figs. 4.18(c) and 4.18(d).
Three different layouts, viz., Case (a) A continuous layer of protection units
kept around 250 m from the points on the island periphery which forms a
Vaan island
