ABSTRACT - The following présentation will try to assess the quantity of inorganic and organic pollutants
brought in by wastes from slightly industrialized coastal districts. The paper is mainly based on data collected
during a study of the throwing oui of waste waters of the eastem part of the Toulon district, the city of Morlaix
on Atlantic coast, completed with bibliographical informations. The quantitative aspects studied âther by expecting
global mean values of concentration and flux or by showing oui the bringing-in rythms. They differ widely
depending on the classes of contaminants (the hour for détergents, the day for aromatic hydrocarbons, the season
for lindane, sporadic for PCBs). Conceming metals, the time link, generally speaking, is not very definite. An
approach of the development of contaminants in water was achieved through several cruises of measurements
completed on both sites. An estimate of the dilution required so that the concentration of each contaminant reaches
the "bottom noise" enabled to establish a new classification of the contaminants. The area in which the effluent
is influential on sédiments was enhanced by techniques adapted to the area studied In the area of Toulon - tide
- fear semi - opened medium - the tracking of the deposits was, in a first step, achieved by means of radioactive
plotters, thus enabling to direct the measurements cruises bearing on the mapping of contaminants
iso-concentrations. In the area of Morlaix, - estuarian medium -, the assessement of the area subject to the
influence of the output required a particular treatment of the data in order to distinguish the various origins of
the contaminants.
INTRODUCTION
L amélioration de la qualité du milieu marin nécessite une connaissance approfondie des
apports et du devenir des polluants dans l'environnement. Les rejets urbains constituent une
source importante de pollution qui justifie la mise en place de programmes d'études destinés
à quantifier les flux introduits dans le milieu, les mécanismes de transports physiques et
sédimentaires, ainsi que les mécanismes de transformation des polluants.
