In Tirap
Tirap District has 1,262 ha of wetland area, which
includes the waterlogged area.
Notwithstanding the above, some of the signifi cant HA lakes of ArP are depicted below.
These are Tawang Lake (Plate 6.3 ), Tso Lake
(Plate 6.4 ), Sangetsar Lake (Plate 6.5 ), Sela Lake
(Plate 6.6 ), Mehao Lake (Plate 6.7 ), etc. All these
HA lakes have typical ecological and biological
conditions. They have signifi cant impact on the
lives of the local people.
6.9.1.3 High Altitude Lentic Bodies
of Sikkim
The province of Sikkim is a hilly terrain with
magnifi cent forest with rich fl oral and faunal
diversity, snow-clad mountains and crystal clear
waterbodies both lentic and lotic. The state is
diverse in its cultural heritage and ethnicity.
There are around 150 lakes scattered all over the
province at different altitudes. Some of the lakes
are the Khecheopalri Lake, Gurudogmar Lake,
Lampokhari, Samiti Lake, Tshangu lakes, etc.
