levels of silver and lead are not unexpected. However, the Santa Catalina station is
located well offshore (40 km across the sea) and the high values there are puzzling. In
comparison with their west coast counterparts, the east coast mussels had consistently
low silver levels. This may relate to lower levels of silver in the waters, to different
