ABSTRACT
Biomass burning is a phenomenon of continental proportions, capable of causing
large scale environmental changes. Satellite observations, in particular NOAAA VHRR CAe data four kilometer ground resolution, are the only source of
information currently useful to document burning patterns on a continental scale
and over long periods of time.
In this paper we present the application of the rose-diagram method in the
analysis of a set of NOAA-A VHRR data to characterize and quantitatively describe
the evolution of spatial patterns of vegetation fire on regional and continental
scales in Africa.
