Global Atmospheric Evolution: Impact of Anthropogenic Activities
4.2 Overview of CORINAIR process
To summarize, one can distinguish five main successive steps in the CORINAIR
process:
1) Specifications/definition step: concerning common specifications and
definitions, the CORINAIR technical unit is in charge of this initial part
(pollutants, emitting sources, LPS specifications, ... ). Concerning
definitions specific to each country (e.g. territorial unit definition ... ),
each national expert is in charge as the first step of this work.
2) Data collection, treatment and emission calculation: each national expert
is in charge of and responsible for this task for his country.
During this step, continuous assistance is provided to national experts by
the Project Leader team (CITEPA).
3) Checking/validation step: the Project Leader (CITEPA) is in charge of
this task. This step does not start necessarily at the end of the data
collection because of several possible feedbacks, between steps 2 and 3
(cf. annex 4).
4) Transfer of national databases into the single CORINE database: after
checking/validation, all national databases (xBase) are transferred into
the single CORINE database (ORACLE) in the European Environment
Agency (EEA).
5) Diffusion of data from CORINE system: before a wide diffusion of
CORINAIR data to different users, a confidentiality treatment extracts
from the full CORINE database a free access database (without restricted
national data). Then tables, maps and diskettes may be distributed.

STATE OF CORINAIR 90 PROJECT - EXAMPLES OF
RESULTS FOR FRANCE
5.1 State of CORINAIR 90
As of September 1994, most EC Member States, EFTA countries and Central and
Eastern European Countries provided final inventories. CORINAIR 90 inventories
were to be definitively frozen by December 1994.
According to the steps previously defined, a provisional step 4 (transfer to
CORINE) was run. Large diffusion of CORINAIR data was carried out in 1995.
