distributions are homogeneous at night with the bulk of fish under 130 mm
SL, uninterrupted distributions to 230 mm SL and records to 400 mm SL.
The modal length is about 40 mm SL in all depths.

Fig. 1. Pooled size distribution of fish (day and night) at four sampled depths in the
foraging range of the king penguins breeding on the Kerguelen Islands during March 1995
When representative samples were available, the general distribution
differed from species to species. L. squamifrons had the smallest length
range distribution followed by P. tenisoni and M marmoratus (Table 1).
Other species exhibited wider distributions (E. antarctica, P. andriashevi,
G. jraseri, G. nicholsi, N coatsi), sometimes associated with clear
multimodal peaks (K. anderssoni at 16, 42 and 56 mm, G. braueri
especially at 45 and 65 mm, P. bolini at 41 and 52 mm) Some species
exhibited only partial LFD with small size fish missing (E. carlsbergi, G.
bolini, B. tenuis, G. piabilis, P. choriodon, P. gracilis, S. boa) and
sometimes also with modal peaks (E. subaspera at 64 and 94 mm).
The distributions seemed to be similar in each depth horizon except in
some species like G. braueri in which specimens up to 90 mm are absent
