The homogeneity of the rate was estimated using the relative rate test
[13]. The number of transversional substitutions per site was estimated
using Kimura's formulas [14]. Variances and covariances were
determined according to Wu and Li [15]. Using the bovichtid Bovichtus
variegatus as reference taxon, the homogeneity of the rate was statistically
tested for a11 possible pairs of remaining notothenioids; levels of
significance were calculated using a standardized normal test (t-test), with
