levels of Cd in oyster tissue were higher during pre-monsoon may partially be
related to higher temperature during the summer season. This observation was
supported by Zaroogian and Cheer (1976) who reported that Cd accumulation
from an experimentally contaminated environment didn’t occur until temperatures
reached greater than 15
ı C. The notably higher concentration of Cd in oyster tissues
observed during the pre-monsoon season may also be attributed to the magnitude
of anthropogenic contribution of Cd in the study area. However, this hypothesis is
yet to be verified through a follow-up study to identify the anthropogenic factors
contributing to the observed results.
Data from the monsoon season revealed lower concentrations as compared to the
pre-monsoon season which may be an effect of water influx during the sampling
