According to Furuta (1989), cell migration from the explants took place
from 3 h after the onset of culture, and lasted for over 2 weeks (Fig. 8).
The migrated cells survived for more than 1 month. The cells aggregated
to form a focus-like structure.

Outer Epithelial Cells of Mantle Tissues of Pearl Oysters
(Bivalvia)
The outer epithelium of molluscan mantle is composed of columnar or
cuboidal epithelium that covers the shell-surface side of the mantle. The
main function of this epithelium is shell formation. Awaji (1991) attempted to isolate pure outer epithelial cells with high viability from the
mantle of the pearl oyster P. fucata martensii .
