3. Communities typical for clean environments are replaced by a community exploiting a great deal of available detritus. The flora is characterized by the appearance of free-floating macroalgae, indicative of
eutrophication while the fauna is characterized by a predominance of
detritus feeders, mainly utilizing decomposed organic plant material.
13.2.3 The Urbino Basin (Western Shore) with Respect
to the Agricultural Exploitation of the Drainage Basins (1980-1990)
Owing to a more diffuse land runoff (leaching) on the southern side of
the peninsula, extreme concentrations of mineral nitrogen, up to tenfold,
increased particulate C and N levels, and in the extreme case 100-fold
higher concentrations of PO;3_p are typical for the Urbino basin
(Fig. 13.3 -13.5).
