5.6 Summary and Conclusions
The specific geographic, geomorphological and hydrographic features of
the Baltic Sea favour eutrophication processes, including increasing
plankton productivity, deposition and accumulation of organic matter,
followed by oxygen depletion and hydrogen sulphide development. The
