3. Continental Slope and Abyssal
The slope and abyssal fauna may be lower in number of species than the shorefish
fauna by an entire order of magnitude. Revisionary studies are correspondingly fewer.
I present data on the species of the Ophidioidei (Table 8; data from ALCOCK, 1899;
NORMAN, 1939; and DE BEAUFORT, 1951, modified with information in my own
