K. WYRTKI:
high-nutrient, low - O2 content waters of the monsoon gyre. The front is inclined, and
slopes from about 100 m depth at 10° to 12° S to 800 m depth at 16° to 18° S. It is
steepest in oxygen, phosphate and nitrate content and somewhat less steep in silicate
content. Near Australia and NW of Madagascar the front is somewhat less pronounced
because of meridional circulation. The front is maintained by the continuous formation
of essentially different water masses in the 2 big gyres.
