Figs. 14 and 15 shows the horizontal distribution of Pleuromamma indica and
Euchaeta wolfendeni in the area covered by the present studies. In the southern shelf
area P. indica was found at almost all stations during November. The highest concentration of this species was found near the continental margin and inside the area
of the Swatch where deep penetration of cool and 02-deficient water was seen. The
interesting aspect is the deep penetration of P. indica at the coastward end of the Swatch
where it was found in considerable numbers at shallow stations (Stns 64/11, 64/12).
Observations made in December at 8 stations near Karachi about 3 weeks after the
November observations failed to record this species at most stations. Only at 2 stations
further offshore were 3 specimens recorded. In March this species was completely
absent in the southern shelf where homogeneous water was found, but it was abundant
in the 200 m haul in the slope water region. Along the western shelf in October, it was
