For the "period 1975 to 1981, the saJll?ling strategies and parameters
me a~ured i n the Gulf of Naples we r e given b y Ca r rada (1983). Subsequently, during the summer of 1983, standard hydrographic and biological
parameters were measured weekly at stations located along the 50 and 100
m isobaths (fig. 1). The Gulf of Salerno was investigated for the first
time during four major cruises in November 1981, April 1982, July 1982,
December 1982 (fig. 1). Other phytoplankton sam?les were periodically
collected at station C1 during summer (1980-1983).

The results of recent investigations are discussed here together
with those previously published by Hopkins and GONEG (1977), Carrada
et al. (1979a, 1979b, 1980, 1981a, 1981b, 1982), Marino and Modigh (1981)
and Tomas (1981).
